VerCAREte Verhältnisse, workshop
Care work and migration are intertwined, as more and more migrants are working in private households or in the care sector - and are sometimes recruited specifically for this purpose. A look at migration policies, particularly in the Global North, shows that this is politically desirable - at the expense of workers who perform care work for precarious wages and with an insecure residence status.
In this introductory workshop, we want to look at how people around the world are fighting for recognition of the care work they do and for their rights. We will also take an interactive look at global care chains and learn about the intersectional positions of migrant workers who experience different and sometimes intertwined forms of discrimination.
