French author Bernard-Marie Koltès concentrates the plot entirely on the four main characters: Hamlet, Ophelia, Claudius and Gertrude. He plays with Shakespeare's original, varies its themes, motifs and sentences and combines them into a new whole. The result is a dense, poetic text - the psychogram of a society in the process of disintegration that only knows itself. In Koltès' adaptation, there is no outside world and, as a result, no way out of the family tragedy. A family thriller of a special kind. Historical and yet contemporary.
