The FC women will host Bayer 04 Leverkusen in a home derby in the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga next Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 6 p.m. The match will be a replay of the fifth matchday. The original derby was abandoned when the score was 1-0 in favor of the FC women due to the failure of a floodlight mast. This was due to a material defect. Why is the match not being continued when the score is 1:0 in favor of FC?

The FC has determined that 1. FC Köln is not at fault for the floodlight failure. However, the DFB statutes do not allow a fairer solution from a sporting point of view. The exact wording reads: "As the championship match was abandoned prematurely through no fault of either club, it must be replayed at the same venue in accordance with section 18 no. 4 sentence 1 of the DFB's legal and procedural regulations. The DFB's Code of Law and Procedure does not provide for a "continuation" of the match from the interrupted minute with the score as it was at that time.

Special derbies

FC women against Bayer 04 Leverkusen - the duels were always exciting, emotional and often spectacular. The 4:3 win in Leverkusen in 2021 and the 4:3 home win two seasons earlier are unforgettable. But the last abandoned derby will also go down in history, unintentionally and through no fault of their own.

That's why we didn't put any energy into things that we can't influence as a team, but instead focused on what we can improve - and that's the work on the pitch. Everyone is highly motivated, we showed what we can do in the first 35 minutes of the last derby. Accordingly, we also want to win the game on Thursday."

The opponent's season so far

Bayer 04 Leverkusen strengthened their squad in the summer with the addition of former FC player Carlotta Wamser, among others, and are on their way to becoming one of the top teams in the league. They have four wins and only one defeat to their name so far. Only against double winners FC Bayern Munich was there an opening defeat, most recently Leverkusen won 2:0 at TSG Hoffenheim.
