Anti-Semitism is a problem that affects society as a whole and is associated with considerable uncertainty for many people. Since the debate about anti-Semitic representations at Documenta 15 at the latest, this has been of particular concern to cultural practitioners. The questions that many are asking themselves are profound: What is art allowed to say or depict and where does anti-Semitism begin? What is still freedom of expression, artistic freedom and what is anti-Semitic?
The project "Dealing with anti-Semitism in Hamburg's cultural institutions" by W3_Werkstatt für internationale Kultur und Politik e.V. in cooperation with the Kreuzberg Initiative against Anti-Semitism - KIgA e.V. would like to explore these and other questions in the future.
In this workshop, we will look at anti-Semitism in its historical development, its various manifestations and its mechanisms of action. With the knowledge we have gained, we will try out ways of acting and reacting to anti-Semitism in different settings.
