Hörspiel-Audiowalk "Wut-Hering heizt"
In the organizer's words:
A narrow-minded herring strangely finds his way to Bochum Dahlhausen. There, he sets out in search of a precious new resource on the Ruhr that everyone in Dahlhausen is talking about: the Pradagel. Along the way, the herring encounters people, pigeons, geese, and catfish, each of whom has their very own idea of what the resource is and what it’s worth. The herring ruthlessly tries to get his hands on the Pradagel. But everyone denies him what he thinks he deserves and squanders the wealth that is rightfully his!
“Angry Herring” is a modern fable about narrow-mindedness, envy, and prejudice. In this radio play, you’ll choke on a big bite of anger in the form of a herring. That anger in your gut has to be digested first. This audio play for a walk transforms the instructions for a nature hike into an immersive experience: hear the Angry Herring speak while the Ruhr River rushes by; see how the island is inhabited by geese. As you walk, visions of home flit by—or were they pigeons? A simple solution to all problems seems within reach: promising new resources are waiting to be discovered, but just don’t fall into the water.
This fable, intended as satire, is already being overtaken by reality: the issue of invasive species is now being distorted by right-wing populists into a “cityscape problem.” The goal of this rhetoric, which is spreading on TikTok, is dehumanization. The audio walk fable about the Angry Herring feels a gag reflex here.
How does the audio walk radio play work?
“Angry Herring” begins at Otto-Wels-Platz in Bochum Dahlhausen, in front of the entrance to the historic train station building. Important: Bring headphones and your cell phone! Once there, you can scan a QR code at the entrance that leads to the “Wut-Hering” homepage, where you’ll find a map and all the audio tracks. The story of the audio play unfolds at locations along the route.
