A young woman wants to get to the top. Today, the arty girl would certainly dream of a breakthrough as an influencer. Almost 100 years ago, there was only one vague goal on the horizon for 18-year-old Doris: to become rich and famous. The bestseller, which was blacklisted by the Nazis, has just been made into a radio play. With Jella Haase in the leading role.

Doris comes from a modest background. But she is young and full of ambition. Her job as a typist bores her. She loses it anyway when she refuses her pushy boss. She wants to become a star.

And she makes the leap to the theater. To the dressing room. But how can you shine in a small town? So she sets off for the metropolis of Berlin, the glittering metropolis where everyone can make their fortune. To help her get started, she has a stolen fur coat in her luggage for a bit of glamor. It is the Berlin of 1931 with its movie theaters, dance halls, bars and cafés. But who is waiting for yet another pretty girl from the provinces?
