VOYAGER SOUND ARCHIVE #1 is an acoustic memory project. In interviews, collaborators, artists, neighbors, and friends of Kampnagel were asked about their auditory memories of Kampnagel: the creaking of the bleachers, heavy doors, soundchecks in the foyer, rattling windows as the club powers up, the buzz of voices before shows, footsteps on concrete. The VOYAGER team searched for these sounds on the premises, recorded them, and mixed them into a deliberately incomplete archive of Kampnagel’s acoustic identity. The opening at the end of October draws on the imagery of the Voyager mission: A “golden record” will be launched into the sky as a time capsule and will orbit the universe for the future. During a listening session, the tracks will be linked to memories of spaces, situations, and encounters. Afterward, the archive will remain permanently accessible via QR codes placed throughout the construction site.
