What is it like to grow up as a young Roma in Prague - between discrimination, police violence and a lack of opportunities? In his autobiographical book I was angry at the whole world, Patrik Banga, now a journalist and writer, tells of a childhood and youth in the shadow of racism and antiziganism.
The book sparked a broad social debate in the Czech Republic in 2023 and was awarded the most important Czech literary prize. Banga holds up a mirror to society: He writes about exclusion and violence, but also about resistance, self-empowerment and the strength to find one's own voice.
His memoirs are therefore more than just personal experiences - they are a document of the minority experience in Europe and a call to take a closer look.
The evening offers the opportunity to listen to passages from the book and to talk to Patrik Banga. He will talk about his journey between anger and self-liberation - and about the power of writing down one's own story despite all resistance.
An event organized by Anthea Verlag in cooperation with the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma. Supported by the Czechia2026 project.
