In the organizer's words:

Sasha Waltz's colorful exploration of the world of minimal music is based on Terry Riley's revolutionary and open composition of the same name. Together with 10 dancers, the choreographer developed choreographic material in spring 2021 that follows a similarly variable structure and therefore leaves room for ever new variations. "In C" is an experimental, constantly evolving process that rethinks Sasha Waltz & Guests' long-standing working approach and the dialog between dance, music and space, both digital and analog.

The score of "In C" consists of 53 musical figures and reads like a stage direction for musicians. I was tempted to translate these detailed instructions into dance in a choreographic exploration of the music. The result is a system of 53 movement figures for a structured improvisation with clear rules and laws. The length of the piece and the number of musicians and dancers remain variable. "In C" is a dynamic, modular system that remains adaptable in times of pandemic.
