James Hersey grew up in Vienna. He began writing and producing songs in his late teens and built up a following on local indie radio before gaining international recognition. His song "Coming Over" (originally part of a live video from a rooftop session) became a legendary bootleg remix (by Filous) and was re-recorded by Kygo and Dillon Francis. This latter version catapulted James' voice to the top of the mainstream EDM charts (#1 on the Billboard Dance Charts). Subsequently, his own "Miss You" earned him two gold records (Canada and Italy) and "How Hard I Try" (featuring Filous) became a staple on mainstream radio worldwide. James' performance highlights include shows at major festivals such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and The Hollywood Bowl as well as touring the world headlining shows and supporting bands such as Honne, Milky Chance and Metric.

James is best known to his fans as a passionate songwriter and authentic solo artist. In 2024, he takes up these roots on "The Solo Tour" and enters the stage with a handful of his favorite instruments and an eclectic mix of his best songs.
