Water has always been her favorite element: With her album Apnoe, Leipzig-based musician JANDA is releasing her second studio album in November 2023. Virtuously produced and sonically impressive, it tells of a dive between two breaths - the acoustic storyboard for a movie that doesn't yet exist. Influences such as Becca Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Fink and Sufjan Stevens shine through, and yet: songs like these have never been heard before. With an effortless blend of folk structures, jazz and pop set pieces and electronic elements, JANDA redefines the boundaries of the singer/songwriter genre. Apnoe goes both emotionally and literally into the depths and captivates listeners. Unmistakable: JANDA's crystal-clear, nuanced voice.
From the very first moment she breathes sound: JANDA grew up as the child of two musicians - her mother a singer, her father a guitarist. Early on, she searches for forms of expression, plays theater, draws, takes photographs with her grandmother's analog camera and travels to distant continents with the school choir. But singing remained a side note for a long time, until she finally found her way to music college via detours. Her first releases followed - her solo debut album The Other You and two recordings with the pop-noir female trio COUCOU. With COUCOU, she successfully participates in the German Music Council's POPCAMP. At the same time, JANDA establishes herself as a vocalist in studio and live productions and shares the stage with Alin Coen, among others. Numerous concerts and tours have taken her through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the USA and India.
In the end, her musical path leads her back to her true core: the intuitive musician.
With voice and guitar, JANDA develops her own language, her musical self-confidence. She reaches the final of the "Fender Paramount Singer/Songwriter Contest", wins a video production at TV Noir/Berlin and the "Lakewood Acoustic Contest". This is followed by live sessions for Deutschlandfunk and Radioeins Berlin. But JANDA is more than just a singer and songwriter: biographies, people and their stories inspire her. At the end of 2022, she will launch her own interview format "The Other You - the podcast about pop, personality and voice". Her current album Apnoe now bridges the gap between songwriting, self-exploration and looking outwards - a curious artist who searches for something special in the everyday: that spark that makes you forget time and space.
