Jatun Mama. Open Air Festival Durchlüften 2026
In the organizer's words:
On four weekends in summer, the DURCHLÜFTEN music festival transforms the Schlüterhof of the Humboldt Forum into an open-air meeting place, without admission, where musical traditions from all over the world unfold and become living archives of culture in the encounter with the audience.
Jatun Mama is a Kichwa electro duo from the Ecuadorian Andes that weaves ancient cosmology into a hypnotic blend of cumbia-like rhythms, bittersweet string sounds and deep electronic sound textures. Founded in 2023 in the Kichwa community of Turuku in Cotacachi-Imbabura, the project is led by producer Jesús Bonilla, who reinterprets ritual music and traditional Andean instruments through contemporary sound design - bringing the energy of ceremonies and festivals to the club and beyond.
Their debut album URA UKU (2025), produced at the community-based ANTA Records studio in the Andes and released on Eck Echo Records in Berlin, explores indigenous cosmology through atmospheric soundscapes and pulsating beats. Following her first European tour in 2024, Jatun Mama continues to carry the power of Kichwa culture into new global contexts, embodying a powerful reinterpretation of ancestral sonic heritage in contemporary indigenous music.
