Jazzfieber. The Story of German Jazz

In the organizer's words:

Documentary film followed by a film discussion: Jazz is hip! Even young people are enthusiastic about swinging rhythms and jazzy grooves. Yet very few people know anything about the background to this music. What actually is jazz? How did this music come to Germany? And why was it fought against by the Nazis? Why were young followers of swing music deported to forced labor camps and jazz musicians even to concentration camps? And how was jazz still able to make its big breakthrough despite all this?

This film sets out in search of answers and accompanies a group of young jazz musicians who are intensively engaged with the roots of their music. In addition, there are gripping concert excerpts and interviews with important and mostly long-dead legends of German jazz. JAZZFIEBER is a search for clues anchored in the present and driven by questions, a road movie through the history of jazz in Germany. Jazzfieber was nominated for the German Jazz Award 2024.

After the screening, director Reinhard Kungel will be available for a film discussion, which will provide interesting insights into the making of the film.
