Who is John Maynard?

With this question begins the famous ballad by Theodor Fontane, which many people know from their school days, if not had to learn by heart. A helmsman, a shipwreck, selfless rescue at the last second-this is how heroes are born. But how many more questions are raised in the 11 verses? Did John Maynard really exist? Did the accident really happen and if so, why did the ship start to burn? What actually happens on the seas and lakes of our planet? Are there more tragic shipwrecks than the Titanic? And who is Bessie anyway?

Six performers explore these and many other questions, look at the saga from different angles and examine even the smallest train of thought.

John Maynard is a piece development in the form of a littérage collage.
