Jüdisches Leben im Nachkriegs-Bogenhausen

Jewish life returned to Munich's Bogenhausen district after 1945. The National Socialists had systematically disenfranchised and persecuted the many Jewish residents of the district. The US military government now confiscates numerous villas that had been expropriated by the Nazis and assigns them to international aid organizations. These became contact points for Jewish survivors from all over Europe. Many of them are only temporarily in the US occupation zone of Germany and await their onward journey to Israel/Palestine or the Americas. Nevertheless, a market, a synagogue and other places of Jewish self-organization were established in the years between 1945 and the mid-1950s. These included Philipp Auerbach's office. The historian Lilly Maier leads us to traces of Jewish life in post-war Bogenhausen, of which there are often only stories today.
