About the movie:
After years of fighting for Kurdish independence, Baran (Korkmaz Arslan) takes up the post of police commander in a godforsaken village in the border region of Iran, Iraq and Turkey: a mecca of illegal trafficking. There he meets Govend (Golshifteh Farahani), a young teacher who has come to teach the children of the village against all odds. Hot on their heels are Govend's twelve brothers and the village godfather Aziz Aga. But together, Govend and Baran stand up to the traditional structures with their courage and sincerity. And find each other in the turmoil of upheaval.
This Kurdish western is beautifully and quietly photographed, peppered with dry comedy and tells an extraordinary love story in a political and moral no man's land. The director blends melancholy with edgy humor. With his two radiant leading actors, the mixture is perfect.
Language version: Kurdish with German subtitles

About the film series:
The cinematic series "KINO, SNACK & TALK" was successfully launched back in September with delicacies to match the film and a round table discussion moderated by curator Malinka Gdanietz (known from the "ROADTRIP INTERNATIONAL" cinema program in Neugraben).
The cinema event, which has been lovingly planned down to the last detail, will now be a permanent fixture in the HONIGFABRIK program and will take place once a month in future. It offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in a very special world for one evening, to get to know other countries, customs and cultures and to talk about what you have experienced afterwards with suitable background music. The films are intentionally shown in the original language with German subtitles so that you can immerse yourself in the respective scenery and native speakers without any knowledge of German can also take part. The multilingual program booklets are available in the Wilhelmsburg district. Films start at 8pm. The current film selection and dates are announced on the website www.honigfabrik.de and on social media, e.g. Instagram.com/kulturzentrum_honigfabrik.
Typical local snacks and drinks will be available on site. After the film, there will be an opportunity to chat in a relaxed atmosphere with selected background music.
