Canadian singer-songwriter Jon McKiel records his experimental indie pop in the rugged marshlands of his adopted home, New Brunswick. McKiel has long been considered one of his country’s most innovative indie musicians—not just since the release of his 2024 album *Hex*, which earned him a nomination for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize. Its predecessor, *Bobby Joe Hope* (2020), has since achieved cult status not only within the local DIY scene. In its review, the platform Aquarium Drunkard called the album an “unlikely masterpiece” and described the music on it as a captivating collision of “lo-fi psychedelic rock, echo chambers full of noise, and bedroom soul”—a fusion that truly unleashes its full hypnotic potential, especially when performed live!

“By patching together samples of unknown origin […] with a wistful
cosmic country vibe, Jon McKiel has created something immediately
timeless.” – Aquarium Drunkard

“It’s like listening to someone play along to the stereo in the
next room, and in its uncanniness, the moment is both unsettling and
unexpectedly beautiful.” – Pitchfork

“[T]he true magic of Hex lies beyond the limited scope of critical
language. These songs seem to come from the realm of dreams, their edges
softened by sleep but their message sharp and bright.”– KLOF Mag
