In the midst of social tensions, political polarization and global crises, art galleries, museums and art associations retain a quiet but stable power: they are seen as places of trust. According to a recent study, people give them more credibility than many other institutions. Why is this the case - and what responsibility does this entail?
Monika Grütters and Hamburg's Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda discuss the role of culture in a crisis-ridden society at the start of the new series Kunst kann mehr! Where does the political responsibility of art institutions begin? How far does the influence of culture extend today - between growing excitement and dwindling funding? Does culture have to take a stand - and if so, how? And how can relevance be consolidated despite the fast-moving politics of the day?
The discussion will be moderated by Stefan Koldehoff (Deutschlandfunk Kultur).
In the second part of the evening, the floor belongs to you, the audience: Mandy Frick (ahoy Radio) will contribute your perspectives to the discussion as co-moderator. We look forward to a stimulating and exciting exchange with you, which will be accompanied by live sketching that graphically condenses the dynamics of the conversation, making the discussion tangible afterwards.
With Kunst kann mehr!, the Bucerius Kunst Forum is opening up a space for debate and ideas for the future. The series brings culture and politics into conversation - not as a contradiction, but as an invitation to think together.
