Kulturwochen Sinti und Roma | Die Geschichte deutscher Sinti* und Roma* in Schleswig-Holstein
In the organizer's words:
The history of German Sinti* and Roma* in Schleswig-Holstein... How is this connected to persecution, delayed reckoning, and a lack of compensation?
We’ll explore this question with Dr. Sebastian Lotto-Kusche. Dr. Sebastian Lotto-Kusche from the European University of Flensburg will present key findings from the study “Coming to Terms with the History of German Sinti and Roma in Schleswig-Holstein,” which was commissioned by the Schleswig-Holstein State Parliament in 2022.
The study examines the persecution of Sinti* and Roma* under National Socialism, the role of police officers, and the treatment of those affected after 1945 in Schleswig-Holstein. Based on interviews with descendants of survivors, newspaper analyses, and an evaluation of compensation and restitution proceedings, the study reveals the continuity of antiziganism to the present day.
There will be time for discussion following the presentation.
