Sandra Boeschenstein (*1967 in Zurich) lives and works in Zurich. Boeschenstein initially studied philosophy and art history at the University of Zurich and after two years switched to studying art at the Bern University of the Arts. She spent many scholarships in Stuttgart, Berlin, Paris, Bucharest and São Paulo, among others. Her work includes drawings on paper as well as large-scale drawings in situ. She sees drawing as her primary tool of cognition and thus explores the border areas between the tangible and intangible, between image and language, between epistemic and poetic qualities. At the center of her attention are the manifold transitions between perception and thought. Boeschenstein works with the build-up and decay energies of meanings and makes what she calls the "loose contact between language and matter" tangible. "When is something and how does it acquire meaning? How do situation, image and language touch each other? What does an insight look like that beckons between material, image and language and cannot be extracted any further?" are central questions that characterize her work. Boeschenstein's works have been exhibited internationally, including 2009 Aargauer Kunsthaus, 2009 Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, 2015 Arter Istanbul, 2016 Hamburger Kunsthalle, 2022 CEUMA São Paulo and Museum zu Allerheiligen Schaffhausen.

Interview partner: Prof. Dr. Daria Pezzoli-Olgiati (*1966) teaches and researches religious studies and the history of religion, since 2016 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. She is interested in the relationship between religion and media, especially film and art. Her publications and research focus on different aspects of religion as a phenomenon that strongly shapes today's culture.
