LA46 Filmfest
In the organizer's words:
Forget Hollywood—show it to the neighbors! FromOctober 9 to 11, 2026, the LA46 Film Festival willonce againbring stories of people from southwest Berlin to the screen at the Thalia Kino. Out of nearly 40 submissions, 24 films were selected—ranging from professional productions to works by beginners. All films are eligible to win one of five prizes, four of which will be awarded in various categories by a jury that includes, among others, radio host Gerlinde Jänicke and actor Raphael Vogt.
The films come from southwest Berlin or were shot by people from the region. Their themes take viewers not only through the neighborhood but also far beyond it: for example, to Nepal, into personal memories, into Berlin’s history, and into a wide variety of life experiences. The program ranges from short films and documentaries to interviews with eyewitnesses and biographical stories, as well as music videos by artists from the neighborhood. Highlights include an amateur short film shot on Super 8 in the 1970s featuring kung fu scenes in the community park, as well as a film about American veterans who returned to Berlin in 2012 for the first time since the withdrawal of Allied forces. Other films tell the stories of life journeys that have left a lasting mark, preserve personal memories, and showcase new music from the neighborhood. The first women’s team of FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin is also featured in a film.
Each of the 24 films will be screened twice during the festival. Tickets cost 6 euros and are now available online and directly at the Thalia Kino. The LA46 Film Festival invites you to experience the cinema as a place of encounter: for filmmakers, neighbors, and anyone curious about stories from southwest Berlin and around the world. Information about this year’s films is available here.
