Reading in dialog - Exciting novels from Leipzig
With Christine Koschmieder & Domenico Müllensiefen
Christine Koschmieder and Domenico Müllensiefen have both attracted enormous attention in recent years with their novels and essays. They tell stories from our present and immediate past respectively, with speed, precision, rigor and wit.
Christine Koschmieder's novel "Schweinesystem" was nominated for the aspekte literature prize in 2014, which honors the best German-language debut of the year. Since then, she has published several novels: "Trümmerfrauen", "Dry" and 2025 "Frühjahrskollektion", as well as books on non-fiction topics, such as "Schambereich. Talking about sex" or "The F-word. A feminist view of so-called miscarriages", which triggered discussions.
In his debut novel "Aus unseren Feuern", Domenico Müllensiefen tells the story of three young men and their experiences in Leipzig in the noughties. The plot of the award-winning novel "Schnall dich an, es geht los" (2024) also focuses on the lives of young people in the post-reunification years.
Koschmieder and Müllensiefen, she moved here from Heidelberg, he from the Altmark, both studied in Leipzig, at the university and the German Literature Institute respectively. Both are published by Kanon Verlag. It will be about their works, the material, but also about the place of writing, the place where the writers meet their audience, about differences and similarities.
