Ljubljana Puppet Theatre: TRANSPORT - Departure

In the organizer's words:

A hyperrealistic miniature world with no way out
—in Slovenian with German surtitles

"Departure" uses the fate of the Fužir family to illustrate the consequences of human interference with nature. The production interweaves the real-life experience of the family from Prevalje—who lost their home in a flood in 2023—with a fictional narrative. Original audio recordings offer a direct account of loss and transience.

Visually, the story comes to life through miniature figures created with a 3D printer: the audience watches a family in their cozy dollhouse as the rain grows increasingly heavy. Their house will not withstand the forces of nature. Using methods that are as simple as they are sophisticated, the puppeteers create a catastrophe that leaves no escape from the consequences of climate change.

As part of the EU project TRANSPORT, six plays have been created that address the topic of transportation while also examining the environmental impact of theater productions. Two productions are featured: “Departure” and “Fasten your Seatbelts!”, which will be presented at the Werkraum of the Münchner Kammerspiele.
