The Ma Bistrass! photo project honors survivors of National Socialist persecution from the Sinti:ze and Rom:nja community. Sinti:ze and Rom:nja continue to be marginalized in our society. In the summer of 2024, photographer and filmmaker Luigi Toscano therefore embarked on an emotional journey through Eastern Europe to meet the last survivors of the genocide and make their fates visible. Many members of the minority have still not received adequate compensation and face resentment and sometimes massive discrimination.

Up to 50 portraits on display in Berlin

The exhibition was shown for the first time in December 2024 at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. It is based on travels and encounters with genocide survivors and their families in Poland, the Czech Republic and Ukraine. In collaboration with the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ), Luigi Toscano, UNESCO Artist for Peace, portrays the survivors and their relatives. Their stories and memories are captured in multimedia in larger-than-life photos and interviews. The exhibition will also be accompanied by an educational program in cooperation with the Schiller-Gymnasium Berlin and the Evangelische Schule Berlin Zentrum.

The exhibition is accessible 24 hours a day in the outdoor area in the "Ladestraße" on the grounds of the German Museum of Technology and then on Steinplatz in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.

The vernissage will take place in the presence of the artist.

The exhibition Ma Bistrass! is taking place as part of the anniversary year KEINE ZEIT ZU VERGESSEN - 25 Jahre Stiftung Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft.
