World Premiere in Magdeburg: Lumagica Takes Visitors on a Journey into a Magical World of Light with “Magdeburg’s Fairy-Tale World”
When autumn sweeps the last leaves along the paths, the air grows crisp, and darkness falls earlier over the city, a very special time begins at Magdeburg’s Elbauenpark. Once again, the park transforms into a radiant fantasy world full of colors, sounds, and emotions. Under this year’s theme, “Magdeburg Fairy Tale World,” Lumagica invites visitors on a unique journey through the world’s most beautiful stories—poetically staged, set to atmospheric music, and created exclusively for Magdeburg in this form for the first time.
Along a roughly two-kilometer-long loop trail, visitors are immersed, step by step, in a world where light begins to tell a story. Amid sparkling trees, glittering landscapes, and artfully illuminated scenes, gates open to familiar fairy tales and childhood memories. Each section of the path holds new surprises, turning the walk into an experience for all the senses.
Here you’ll meet Pinocchio, who tells of courage, longing, and the desire to be a real boy. There, Aladdin opens the gateway to a mysterious world from *One Thousand and One Nights* with his magic lamp. Snow White appears in radiant beauty amid sparkling colors, while Sinbad sets off on glowing waves toward new adventures. Numerous other characters from fairy tales, legends, and children’s books accompany guests on their journey through this enchanting landscape of light.
What makes this particularly extraordinary is that the entire lighting concept was designed specifically for Magdeburg and is making its world premiere in this form at Lumagica. Many of the impressive light installations were created exclusively for this location and can only be experienced at Elbauenpark. Magdeburg thus serves as the stage for an international new production that uniquely combines imagination, design, and light art.
With over 300 artistically designed light motifs, more than 10,000 meters of string lights, numerous interactive elements, and over 1,000 decorative features, Elbauenpark transforms into a luminous total work of art. Around every bend, new perspectives, lovingly crafted details, and impressive displays await, inviting visitors to marvel, explore, and pause for a moment.
