With its minimalist line-up of just two members, Madalisto Band is an unconventional yet impressive power duo. Lead singer Yobu Maligwa creates an imposing sonic presence with his babatone - a distinctive bass instrument made from a laundry drum - with a deep sound. In addition, Yosefe Kalekeni navigates the sound range of stringed instruments with his four-string guitar, complemented by a drum covered in cowhide and vocals. Together they create an aura of concentrated energy and seemingly simple but hypnotizing rhythms and syncopations.

BANTU, short for Brotherhood Alliance Navigating Towards Unity, is a 13-piece music collective celebrated for its powerful sound and socially critical lyrics. Founded in Germany by brothers Ade Bantu and Abiodun and deeply rooted in the soundscape of Lagos, the center of the global Afropop scene, the band has created an unmistakable mix of Afrobeat, Afrofunk and Yoruba music. It stands for cultural preservation and spiritual expression and draws on centuries of tradition, wisdom and collective experience. BANTU has a collaborative, community approach where every member has a chance to shine. Their music effortlessly transcends boundaries, fusing funk with political awareness and creating a poetic musical experience.

Queen Asher & Rehema Tajiri

Rehema Tajiri and Queen Asher form an unconventional mother-daughter duo, illustrating the interplay of familial bonds and creative processes. Tajiri's career spans two decades - she first made a name for herself as a singer and dancer in the Tanzanian-Congolese rumba scene. Inspired by her mother's musical legacy, Queen Asher emerged as a singeli DJ, reshaping the genre with her mother through her dynamic performances. Singeli music is characterized by high tempo and infectious rhythms and is closely linked to singeli dance culture - often with DJs and MCs performing live at singeli parties, dance competitions and other occasions. Through performances and collaborations with artists such as Tajiri and Queen Asher, Singeli music is also gaining international recognition and a global audience.
