Feature film - P, E, F, PHI, TW 2025 - 160' - OmeU
Director: Lav Díaz
You certainly can't expect a conventional biopic about the famous Portuguese circumnavigator Ferdinand Magellan from Lav Diaz. However, at just over two and a half hours long, the Filipino's latest work is almost a short film by his standards - and Gael García Bernal in the title role also ensures that this is perhaps the most "commercial" film by the multi-award-winning director. As always, Diaz tells his story in long, motionless long shots that allow you to immerse yourself completely in the strange world of the 16th century. A film full of violence, but also spectacular natural beauty.
All about the power of images in film, pop culture, art and society. At FILM FESTIVAL COLOGNE from October 9-16, 2025 and always online.
