Masterclass & Workshop: Jan Bonny

Over two weekends, participants will have the opportunity to work with Jan Bonny in the development of a scene. Jan Bonny studied at the KHM in Cologne and works as a director and writer for film, television and theater. With King of Stonks he directed a series for Netflix, which received the German Television Award in 2023. His feature films have been shown in Cannes, Locarno and Busan, among others. With Düsseldorf artist Alex Wissel, he has realized the Rheingold project at the Volksbühne Berlin, among others.

On 11.11 . Jan Bonny will present his own work. In the afternoon, registered participants will have the opportunity to discuss their projects.

On November 12, we will continue the discussion of the works and set a writing task to be completed for the second weekend, which - in addition to casting and motif search - will be the basis for the following directing exercise. Participants should already have experience in this area.

On the 2nd weekend (25.11. & 26.11.) we will discuss the resulting texts and their staging, which will be filmed with the help of the group on location and the cameraman Jakob Berger. The workshop deals with questions of material development, dramaturgy, casting, staging and acting and aims to give a basic insight into scenic work. The workshop is designed as an exercise and focuses on practical experience in the working process on location rather than on the outcome.
