Visually and in terms of content, Mettler draws on personal conversations, philosophical and spiritual texts as well as his own film and sound archive. His approach is characterized by openness and humility towards life and nature - and always full of subtle humour and self-irony.
With "Gambling, Gods And LSD", director and visual designer Peter Mettler created a film of the century in 2002. Two decades later and many lives later, he has now created a cinematic diary from the time around the pandemic and beyond. It revolves around the impact of the death of his own parents and the question of how we will all continue - on a personal and global level. With his unique cinematic style, the director invites us on a meditative journey, from the Appenzell Alps to the lockdown in Toronto. Sometimes tragic, sometimes humorous, sometimes philosophical or poetic.
"While The Green Grass Grows (Parts 1+6)" consists of two parts of an epic film in seven chapters. A work that is guided by existential questions. "How can I as a filmmaker engage in a dance with the unfolding experience of life, filming while life is happening?" Mettler's view of things encourages us to look, listen and explore with compassion. To observe things in such a way that the interrelationships of life come to the fore, simply as personal experiences unfold. In this case: through a work of visions, encounters and thoughts.
