MOCKY and friends - LA meets BERLIN JAM with MAYLEE TODD *live

In the organizer's words:

Mocky (Stones Throw/CA) *live*

Special Guest: Maylee Todd (Stones Throw/CA) *live*

Presented by COSMO

With his album “Music Will Explain” (Choir Music Vol. 1), released on the legendary Los Angeles label Stones Throw Records, Mocky puts the human voice front and center. With a choir, just one microphone, and an old tape recorder, he captures a warm, authentic, and deeply human sound. The album has wowed heavyweights like Questlove and Jimmy Jam.

Now Mocky is bringing his legendary, bimonthly Los Angeles residency to Berlin—and where better to host it than at Gretchen? Look forward to intimate live performances, special guest appearances by artists from Mocky’s impressive network (including Vulfpeck, Feist, GZA, and Kelela), as well as deeply groovy, danceable sounds, backed by a fantastic international band full of openness and joy. You won’t want to miss this—Mocky is bringing a slice of California sunshine to Berlin!

Mocky became known for his warm, organic sound—a blend of soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, and lo-fi pop—as well as for his productions for Feist, Jamie Lidell, Kelela, Moses Sumney, and Vulfpeck. His work is characterized by analog recordings, lively grooves, and deliberately imperfect sessions with a strong live feel. As early as the 2000s, he helped shape Berlin’s expat scene—blending electro, punk, soul, hip-hop, and performance art—alongside Chilly Gonzales, Peaches, Feist, and Jamie Lidell. Together with Gonzales and Peaches, he also founded the cult Dadaist underground punk band The Shit.

Later, in Los Angeles, Mocky became a key figure in the alternative soul and jazz scene. His “Mocky & Friends” residency there evolved into a gathering place for musicians, producers, and improvisers from around the world. The series represented a counter-movement within the L.A. music scene—moving away from purely digital production toward genuine interaction, characterized by spontaneous collaborations, intimate live moments, communal music-making, and recordings with real ensembles and deeply grooving sessions. Many of these collaborations found their way directly into his albums and productions.

With Mocky & Friends, you can look forward to a collective live experience that blends concert and improvisation.
