Anyone who can count Sir Elton John among their fans must be doing something right - and Muroki undoubtedly has. The Kenyan-New Zealand musician received this extraordinary recognition at the age of 19. No wonder: his relaxed mix of reggae, pop and RnB immediately puts you in a good mood. Muroki Mbote Wa Githinji was born in the small town of Raglan on New Zealand's west coast, a tranquil surfer's paradise. Muroki spent his youth between skateboarding, surfing and music. He learned to play the guitar as a child and later taught himself other instruments. His first single "For Better of Worse" was released in 2019 and he quickly found his first fans. The New Zealand artist Benee became aware of him and even played the song on Elton John's radio show, who was also impressed. Shortly afterwards, Benee signed Muroki to her label Olive Records. This was followed in 2021 by his debut EP "Dawn", whose song "Wavy" became a hit in New Zealand and has since achieved platinum status. With his smooth groove, hypnotic voice and laid-back reggae-soul sound, Muroki hit a nerve. His unmistakable talent was also evident on his "Heading East" EP, released in 2022. This was followed by tours throughout New Zealand and Australia, support slots with greats such as Jack Johnson and gigs in Los Angeles and Berlin, where he impressed with his relaxed stage presence and palpable love of music. In 2024, Muroki followed up with his third EP "Timezones". The single "Love Cocoon", a feature with his longtime girlfriend Benee, became a chart success on the legendary Australian station Triple J. Shortly after its release, Muroki moved to Berlin to further develop his music, find new inspiration and take his sound to the next level. These fresh influences can be heard on his latest EP "Somebody Someday" - the perfect soundtrack for balmy summer evenings in the big city.
