Music by Luciano Berio and a story by Italo Calvino
as part of the "Three Days of New Music Braunschweig"festival
This concert is all about the perception of the world through hearing alone: Ensemble Megaphon combines four sequences by Luciano Berio, live electronic intermezzi and their own compositions with the story "Ein König horcht" by Italo Calvino in an acoustic collage. Both works - Berio's sequences and Calvino's story - deal with listening as a central theme. The audience is given eye masks at the beginning of the concert and invited to experience the concert exclusively by listening in the dark.
In Calvino's story, the king tries to grasp the whole world around him by listening. Like the king's throne in the story, the piano stands in the middle of the room and the audience sits around it, while the musicians play in the space between the audience members. This is accompanied by selected text passages by Calvino, recorded by Tayfun Bademsoy and/or spoken live by singer Sophia Körber. After the concert, we invite you to an open discussion with the artists, accompanied by a drink.
