Water, as an essential element of life, can fill any vessel, from a simple glass to the oceans of the world, without permanently taking on its shape. Olivia Trummer's music is also in constant motion and crosses the boundaries between different genres with extraordinary fluidity and transparency. With her new album "Like Water", the outstanding German pianist, singer and composer, under the guidance of legendary American producer Russ Titelman, takes up the challenge of showing the listener her entire musical essence. It becomes clear that the juxtaposition of her inherent musical worlds is not a mere sum of individual parts, but a unique synthesis - "beguilingly beautiful!" (Generalanzeiger Bonn).
The interplay between her simultaneously delicate and powerful singing and her absolute mastery of the piano creates a dialog at eye level that goes beyond all conventional expectations of a solo concert. She covers a wide stylistic range: From classical music (Bach and Beethoven) to improvisation, from jazz and Broadway songs (Jerome Kern, Leonard Bernstein...) to newly illuminated pearls of pop (Stevie Wonder, Brenda Russell...) to her own compositions
"Like Water" invites you into a world of sound in which the familiar is transformed into the surprising and the new quickly becomes familiar. An artfully touching declaration of love from an extraordinary artist to the living flow of music.
OLIVIA TRUMMER - BIO
The pianist, singer and composer Olivia Trummer cannot be defined by genre or coordinates. She has received international acclaim for the unique way in which she combines her two instruments - piano and voice - and creatively builds bridges between different styles. She has already received several awards for this, including the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize and the Ingolstadt Jazz Prize. Coming from a family of musicians, she began her classical piano training at the age of 4 and at the same time discovered her curiosity to express herself through improvisation and composition. She studied jazz piano and classical piano at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart, graduating with honors in both and continuing her jazz piano studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York with the help of a DAAD scholarship. The formative years spent in the jazz metropolis of New York and her close relationship to classical music have always served as sources of inspiration for her.
Olivia Trummer performs on stages all over the world and has released 11 albums under her own name and with her own music, the last three on the Warner Music Italy label. Bridging the gap between jazz and classical music has a special place in her work, whether through albums ("Classical To Jazz") or in concerts with orchestra, in which she combines piano concertos with improvisations (such as at the opening ceremony of the Beethoven Year at the Bonn Opera).
Olivia has performed at festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, GroundUp Festival, London Jazz Fest, Vancouver Jazz Festival and in renowned clubs such as "Birdland" New York, Blue Note Tokyo, Shanghai & Milan, Ronnie Scott's, Konzerthaus Vienna & Berlin and has shared the stage with artists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Eric Clapton and Bobby McFerrin. Other collaborations include the NDR Bigband, SWR Bigband, Magnus Lindgren, Obed Calvaire, Matt Penman, Jimmy Cobb, Tim Garland, Fabrizio Bosso, Mario Biondi, Luciano Biondini, Gabriele Mirabassi, Alex Sipiagin.
Since 2024, she has also been working with American producer Russ Titelman, a three-time Grammy winner known for his work with Eric Clapton, Randy Newman, Rickie Lee Jones and many others. After discovering videos of Olivia on YouTube, he contacted her and a few months later produced her 11th album, "Like Water.
