In 2026, Paula Modersohn-Becker would have turned 150. To mark the occasion, the Bremen Puppet Theater “Mensch Puppe” will present its new production, “Paula. Selbst,” at the Kunsthalle Bremen starting September 12.
With “Paula. Selbst,” the Bremen puppet theater sets out to explore the life of Paula Modersohn-Becker, who chose the path of a painter at a time when women were not expected to be independent artists. The piece is an interdisciplinary, painterly-theatrical exploration centered on the artist’s numerous self-portraits.
“Paula. Self” is a co-production of “Mensch, Puppe!” and the Kunsthalle Bremen. Following “Hildegard von Bingen” and “Irmgard Keun,” the Bremen Puppet Theater presents “Paula. Self” as the final part of a trilogy about strong female figures through the ages.
