Philipp Mickenbecker shaped an entire generation. With his zest for life, his hope and his faith in God, which even three bouts of cancer could not take away from him, he became an inspiration for millions of people. Two years after his death, his story continues to be told: On September 18, the documentary "Philipp Mickenbecker - Real Life" will premiere in Berlin.

Emmy award winners Lukas Augustin & Alexander Zehrer accompany Philipp for the last three months of his life. Viewers experience first-hand how Philipp's friends cook for him, care for him and go on two long journeys with him. How should one deal with such great suffering? Can there be a God who allows something like this to happen and what is the point of it all? Philip holds on to his faith until the very last second and finds a higher meaning in it.

After a trip to the Dominican Republic, Philipp's condition deteriorates rapidly and he is hospitalized. His closest friends gather there to say goodbye to him. But even now, just moments before his death, Philipp finds nothing but words of encouragement and a poignant smile for his friends.

A deeply moving film about hoping and waiting for a miracle, about dealing with one's own finiteness in a phase of life in which one doesn't really want to think about death. And about a group of friends who face these challenges together.
