Podiumsgespräch: Frauen unterwegs. Perspektiven weiblicher Entschleunigung
In the organizer's words:
With Anneke Lubkowitz (author of *Rebellinnen zu Fuß*) and Millay Hyatt (author of *Nachtzugtage*)
For a long time, traveling and exploring nature were male domains, and consequently, writing about these topics was clearly male-dominated. Women, on the other hand, very rarely played a role as historical or literary “female hikers.”
A shift has now taken place: Not only have literature and research, through a female lens, brought together social, political, and philosophical aspects to form a feminist tradition of nature and travel writing—but numerous “literary female hikers” have also long since been identified, women who set out on their journeys centuries ago in an unconventional and unabashed manner.
In *Rebellinnen zu Fuß* (Female Rebels on Foot), author Anneke Lubkowitz has followed in the footsteps of eleven female writers who traveled on foot through Europe and the U.S., learning a great deal about female self-determination, freedom, and the diversity of experiences in nature. Millay Hyatt holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and is a freelance writer and translator. In *Nachtzugtage* (*Night Train Days*), she has written an ode to train travel—from the joy of long-distance journeys to the train compartment window serving as a movie screen.
In conversation with Dr. Daniel Müller Hofstede, director of the cultural program, both concepts will be presented and woven together into a shared exploration of women’s travel and travel experiences.
