The new concert series PRESENT TENSE presents artists who carry the original idea of jazz into sub- and pop-cultural genres. Driven by an unbridled desire for improvisation and interaction on the one hand, many of these artists are at the same time inspired by a turn towards decisive milestones in their personal musical socialization, which often enough lie in electronic music, punk, post-rock or hip-hop.
The Munich band EMBRYO will kick things off
The band Embryo from Munich has been active since 1969. They have played with greats such as Mal Waldron, Trilok Gurtu, Okay Temiz, Fela Kuti and many more. The daughter of band founder Christian Burchard, who passed away in January 2018, Marja, grew up with the band and took over the musical direction as a multi-instrumentalist in 2015/2016. Young talented musicians gather around her to keep the eternal flow of Embryo going. Old and new compositions merge into a unique sound experience, in which non-European and inner-European melodies, rhythms, jazz and the rocking psychedelic sounds of the 70s can be heard.
This time with the wonderful musicians from Berlin Johannes Schleiermacher, Mascha Juno and Fabiana Striffler. A special concert with interwoven rhythms, shimmering and woven sound patterns and special sounds that transport the listener to other spheres.
