Reden wir über Kinderhaus! - "Miteinander reden: Lokaljournalismus im Stadtteil" (#1)

With “Talking Together,” RUMS is dedicating an entire evening to the Kinderhaus neighborhood . At the start of the event, RUMS editor Raphael Balke will take the stage at the school center to discuss four topics related to the neighborhood with his guests. Afterward, the audience is invited to join in table discussions, ask questions, and engage in conversation— openly, respectfully, and as equals. Admission to the event is free.

Living in the Schleife: The Business of Decay

RUMS writer Sebastian Fobbe will be there. For six months, he researched the business surrounding the high-rises in the Schleife and sought answers as to why apartments owned by the real estate company ZBI have been in poor condition for years and what consequences this has for the tenants. The result is a series of five articles about a dubious business model built on decay and the uncertain future of nearly 700 apartments. On stage, he’ll discuss the key findings of his research. He’ll also talk about the obstacles he encountered during his investigation and which questions remain unanswered.

Rapper Makani: From Children’s Home to the Stage

Two years ago, rapper and singer Delano Jörling won the “Voice of Münsterland” competition under his stage name Makani. With his blend of rap and R&B, he reaches more than 100,000 people on Instagram and TikTok. He talks with Raphael Balke about how growing up in Kinderhaus has shaped his music, what connects him to the neighborhood, and the challenges he faces as a young musician from Münster.

Trash Task Force: How Can We Keep Kinderhaus Clean?

For months, residents in Kinderhaus have been complaining about illegally dumped trash in the neighborhood. We speak with District Mayor Ralf Kiewit about what a newly formed task force is supposed to do to address the problem. This also raises fundamental questions: Who is responsible for public spaces? What must politicians and administrators do, and what contribution can the neighborhood and social cohesion make?

Youth Work in Women’s Soccer: How the Sport Brings a Neighborhood Together

The Westfalia Kinderhaus club has been committed to girls’ and women’s soccer for years. More than 300 players train there across 17 teams. This makes the division one of the largest of its kind in Germany. We ’ll be speaking with Executive Director Cora Weers and team captain Lia-Malin Große about why youth work at Kinderhaus is important, the role the club plays for girls and young women, and how soccer brings together very different people in the neighborhood.
