Local politics - this is the place where democracy works "on a small scale". The opportunities for participation are low-threshold, citizens experience political decisions directly and party-political disputes hardly seem to play a role - or do they?

At the same time, only a few citizens are involved in local politics and voter turnout in local elections is usually low. - How does this fit together? Is local politics the "stronghold of democracy" or is it becoming increasingly meaningless for people because there is a growing lack of connection to their own environment and home?

Between the end of the local election campaign and the meeting of the new city council in Schwabach, we are therefore taking an evening to look at fundamental questions of our political system: How do (Schwabach) citizens feel about democracy? What political and social values are important to them? What problems make people doubt democracy?

Political scientist Simon Bein from the University of Regensburg will shed light on the topic from a scientific perspective. This will be complemented by the media and local perspective of Michael Husarek, editor-in-chief of Nürnberger Nachrichten. Together they will explore the question: How democratic is our political culture - from Berlin to Schwabach?
