Since the Middle Ages, theland of milk and honey has been called that utopian place that promises a better life and prosperity: the food flutters ready-prepared into your mouth, the wine flows directly from the vines and even the architecture is mouth-watering. A fountain of youth keeps the body healthy, wrinkle-free and pure, wages are earned in your sleep, laziness is rewarded and lies are honored. Every day is a sunny Sunday.
The promise, but also the paradox of this culinary paradise has provided fertile ground for literature, visual arts and film ever since. Today, industrialization and globalization - at least in terms of food availability and especially in Western societies - have created supposedly Schlaraffian conditions. The sensual, humorous, but also thought-provoking artistic positions and a diverse accompanying program look beyond this overflowing horizon. Like an amuse-gueule, they encourage visitors to discuss the curse and blessing of urban prosperity, growing socio-economic inequality, the relationship between excess, abundance and scarcity, nature and culture, and the value of work and craftsmanship.
