Sweet tattoos and consultation hours with Dr. Chat - Science Slam in the Waschhaus Arena
Stressed plants, sugar-sweet tattoos and the question of what pressure points have to do with artificial intelligence will be the topics of the University of Potsdam's Science Slam on November 12 at 8 p.m. in the Waschhaus Arena. You can also find out what happens in a flipped classroom and whether climate justice can be achieved in court. Five researchers from the University of Potsdam and neighboring institutes will explain what they are currently working on in a witty and pointed manner. The ten-minute limit sets the stress and pressure point. Whoever manages to get the audience excited about their topic in the short time available is crowned the winner by applause and points. Bryan Nowack, himself a successful slammer and biologist, will host the competition. This time he will be supported musically by a very special guest: University President Prof. Oliver Günther, Ph.D. on the saxophone.
What is it like to learn in the flipped classroom? Is it really better than in traditional lessons? In her slam, student Alicia Chiara Jänsch takes a close look at media-supported self-study and draws conclusions for didactics at universities. Many people now use media-supported self-study even when they have health problems and like to consult ChatGPT. Political scientist Christoph Abels explains exactly why this is a problem, what pressure points have to do with artificial intelligence and how our behavior is changing when dealing with this technology.
Chemist Martin Reifarth, on the other hand, deals with the "tattooing" of cells. In the Science Slam, he explains why he uses sugar molecules for this and why he prefers particularly slimy cells. The lecture by Ronja Schwenkler, who is particularly concerned about the fate of plants suffering from climate change, is about the winners and losers of climate change. According to the geoecologist, the chances of moving to cooler places are not the same for everyone. If the plants could complain, they might file a climate lawsuit. Political scientist Lea Becker, who specializes in research issues relating to sustainability, is concerned with the effectiveness of such legal remedies.
The Science Slam is organized by Potsdam Transfer, the central institution for start-ups, innovation, knowledge and technology transfer at the University of Potsdam, in cooperation with the Waschhaus.
