SERRAHN literarisch mit Uwe Friesel
In the organizer's words:
Schlemihl, a West German, lives in Salzwedel, in the Altmark region of the former GDR. His home is not, as is commonly believed, an apartment building, but a psychiatric institution. He suffers from a split personality. It is slowly dawning on his various identities that a past rooted in real socialism—leaning toward the red—has given way to a present that leans more toward the brown. Uwe Friesel reads from Schlemihl’s stories, as well as poems and other works, and discusses his multifaceted, highly topical body of work.
Friesel has published novels, children’s and young adult books, and radio plays; since the 1980s, he has made a name for himself primarily with socially critical crime novels and has translated prose from English (including works by John Updike and Nabokov). From 1989 to 1994, he served as chairman of the Association of German Writers (VS) and is a member of PEN Germany. After spending years in Italy, Sweden, and the Altmark region, the multi-award-winning author now lives with his partner in Buxtehude.
