Spätsommer Open Air: The Invite (engl. OmU)

After 15 years of marriage, Angela (Olivia Wilde) and Joe (Seth Rogen) are going through a rough patch. It’s been a long time since they’ve had dinner together with other couples. When Angela spontaneously invites the neighbors from the apartment above them over, it becomes clear that Pina (Penélope Cruz) and Hawk (Edward Norton) are more friendly toward them than their distant encounters in the elevator would have suggested. What was meant to be a convivial evening of small talk about cheese, wine, and interior design turns into a wild roller-coaster ride of emotions. Who’s playing games with whom, and who will lose control in the end?

Inspired by the Spanish film *SENTIMENTAL*, *THE INVITE* unfolds as a dialogue-driven fireworks display that’s as funny as it is emotionally charged. To this end, lead actress and director Olivia Wilde (DON’T WORRY DARLING) has assembled a top-notch ensemble cast: Oscar® winner Penélope Cruz recently appeared in Michael Mann’s FERRARI and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s THE BRIDE! – LONG LIVE THE BRIDE. Edward Norton most recently shone in the Bob Dylan biopic LIKE A COMPLETE UNKNOWN and has already been nominated for an Oscar® for the fourth time. And let’s not forget Seth Rogen, who is currently masterfully parodying himself and the entire Hollywood film industry in the Apple TV series THE STUDIO—which he co-developed and co-wrote—and which has been showered with 13 Emmys and numerous other awards. So, the stage is set for an evening together filled with awkward moments, gaffes, and the pitfalls of long-term relationships. *THE INVITE* celebrated its world premiere earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival in the “Premieres” section.
