Sprechstunde mit Mazda Adli. Fragen über Einsamkeit

In the organizer's words:

Family affects us all. It is omnipresent and yet is experienced and lived in very different ways. Family relationships have points of contact with an almost infinite number of areas of life. They influence us - consciously or unconsciously, whether we like it or not.

In the Sprechstunde series, we invite people who are experts in dealing with family challenges professionally, whose biographies are interwoven with the concept of family in a special way or who are trying out alternative forms of living together. And since we all have something to say about family, we all get to talk to them: about questions that affect everyday life and are often not so easy to answer - and about topics that are otherwise rarely so directly accessible.

How do heir tracers reconstruct the family histories of deceased people in order to find missing relatives? How do neighborhood networks create networks of care and solidarity - across family, language and class boundaries? How do counselors in family centers try to help resolve conflicts within families? To what extent did lesbian networks in the GDR offer a unique family experience? Where do people find help who have been separated from their families for long periods of time - through flight and expulsion or by conscious decision?

During the consultation hour at the Humboldt Forum, you can ask the experts your questions directly and straightforwardly - without having to make an appointment or wait on a waiting list! The focus is on an open exchange of ideas with the audience.

The Berlin district of Reinickendorf has had Germany's first loneliness officer since 2024. The UK has a Ministry of Loneliness and the German government at least has a loneliness strategy. The issue of loneliness is increasingly becoming the focus of public attention. At the same time, loneliness - despite the success of bestsellers such as Allein (Daniel Schreiber, 2021) - is still associated with great shame.

Mazda Adli explains why this is the case and answers your questions. As a psychiatrist and stress researcher, he investigates the social conditions and effects of loneliness and tries to bring the topic out of the taboo zone.

How is the feeling of loneliness triggered? What is the difference to being alone? How widespread is loneliness and is it really a disease? What can I do about it? What misconceptions are circulating - and why does it affect so many young people?

Prof. Dr. Mazda Adli is Chief Physician at the Fliedner Clinic Berlin and Head of the Affective Disorders Research Unit at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. His scientific work focuses on depression and stress research. He initiated the Interdisciplinary Forum Neurourbanism and published the book Stress and the City (2017), which examines the influence of city life on mental health. Since 2022, he has been leading the citizen science project "Your emotional city!", in which anyone can participate. He is a co-founder of the World Health Summit and a member of the DGPPN Climate and Mental Health Task Force.

Ask Mazda Adli your questions.
