Once again, the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett is devoting itself to the iconic music of avant-garde composer Igor Stravinsky. Following "Thin Skin" (2019) and "Woke up Blind" (2021), Marco Goecke is intensifying the collaboration with a new creation in his clearly identifiable, unique signature style: he is shaping the abstract dance suite "Scènes de ballet", written in 1944. This makes Goecke - after the legendary Uwe Scholz - the first top-class German dance artist to dedicate himself to this rarely performed masterpiece. In May 2023, Goyo Montero's "Firebird" - another monolith on his extensive list of works - was created with Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo as an extraordinarily intense interpretation of the key work in ballet history from 1909. In Montero's version, it is a story about love, betrayal and revenge. For his Nuremberg company, he is deepening this piece as a modern, critical fable about an environmental catastrophe and the extermination of an ethnic group. GMD Roland Böer will conduct ballet for the Staatstheater Nürnberg for the first time and lead the Staatsphilharmonie through the two varied scores.
