THE MESSIAH by Patrick Barlow

English Theatre Düsseldorf (ETD) is delighted to present Patrick Barlow's British Christmas comedy *THE MESSIAH* (in English) at the FORUM Wasserturm in Meerbusch on December 10, 2026!

Patrick Barlow’s THE MESSIAH is a funny and hilarious reinterpretation of the greatest story of all time: the Christmas story! The entire cast of... two people, led by “distinguished historian and actor” Artistic Director Jeffrey Thespus Wimpole (Mike McAlpine) and his incompetent—er, plucky—assistant Humphrey Dott (Bevan Thomson), presents their version of the entire Christmas story, accompanied by the fantastic opera singer (Anna Moog), who brilliantly performs excerpts from Handel’s Messiah. Jeffrey and Humphrey play all the familiar characters—Joseph, Mary, the Archangel Gabriel, Herod, God, and many, many more. The audience will leave the theater filled with joy and the Christmas spirit.

English Theatre Düsseldorf (ETD) was founded in January 2018 by Rosie Thorpe (UK/DE) and Ilya Parenteau (USA). Our mission is to bring artistically excellent professional English-language theater to international audiences; to provide meaningful international cultural experiences; to facilitate cultural exchange; and to foster an appreciation for the arts and artistic expression among people of all ages.

ETD is committed to supporting the already vibrant and growing international cultural landscape of Düsseldorf and North Rhine-Westphalia through the arts. We achieve our vision by collaborating with international artists; programming a diverse season that includes new and emerging works as well as European premieres of international plays; and by empowering our community through theater workshops for adults and children.
