This new music theater production explores the absurdity and harshness of our human existence. Composer Chaya Czernowin (Professor of Composition at Harvard University in NYC, USA) poses the questions of our time in a highly political yet open, associative manner, using visually striking imagery: Through physical gestures, instrumental situations, and theatrical scenes—ranging from a humorous family photo to a state of shock-induced paralysis. The work is based on five absurd texts by the Russian writer Daniil Kharms, whose dry, fragmentary writings expose the fractures in everyday logic. Czernowin composes music, movement, light, action, and emotion—a piece of inescapable present.
