TIK: Die Architektur der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek Leipzig von Oskar Pusch zu Gabriele Glöckler

In the organizer's words:

Over the past 100 years, architectural requirements for library construction have changed significantly. A good example is the building that houses today’s German National Library in Leipzig, which was designed and built by Oskar Pusch beginning in 1913. The building, which opened 110 years ago on September 2, 1916, now features several extensions whose architectural styles reflect the spirit of the times in which they were built and shape the cityscape. This is particularly true of the fourth extension, designed by architect Gabriele Glöckler. It opened in 2011 and now houses the German Book and Writing Museum.

The tour of the German National Library—110 years after the historic building’s opening—provides insights into the building’s construction phases and highlights its distinctive interior design features and artistic ornamentation. Current requirements regarding energy management, preservation of existing structures, and usage profiles will be explained using the buildings as examples.
