Film Screening and Artist Talk
Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn,The Unburied Sounds of a Troubled Horizon(2022), 58'
During the opening weekend of the Berlin edition of the 36th São Paulo Biennial at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW), Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn will present his film*The Unburied Sounds of a Troubled Horizon*(2022) as well as a short excerpt from*Amongst the Disquiet* (2024), which has already been shown at the São Paulo Biennial. *The Unburied Sounds of a Troubled Horizon* draws on the stories of people in Quảng Trị, central Vietnam—one of the most heavily bombed regions in the history of modern warfare. The film explores material memory and its potential for transformation. It asks whether objects scarred by violence can become instruments of healing, making it possible to give voice to repressed stories and unresolved memories.
In conversation with curators Paz Guevara and Alya Sebti, Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn discusses his cinematic practice—deeply rooted in memory and storytelling—as well as his contributions to both the 36th São Paulo Biennial and the exhibition*Tirailleurs. From Cannon Fodder to Avant-Garde—The Forgotten Soldiers Who Liberated Europe, which was on view at the HKW earlier this year.
Film screening followed by a conversation between the artist, Paz Guevara, and Alya Sebti
