When the organization was founded in 2012, it was clear to him: "In two years, there will be reconstruction in Syria, under a new leadership." But instead of peace, the biggest humanitarian catastrophe since the Second World War unfolded - with political consequences for the whole world.

The history of the association he founded, Orienthelfer e.V., is closely linked to the history of the Middle East over the last 14 years. "Anyone who provides aid in conflicts is automatically politicized. That's what we're fighting against," explains Christian Springer.

Christian Springer turns the dusty topic of "development cooperation" into a captivating documentary, from fraud and success stories to sex and crime. "I have met saints and devils. And we can satisfy hunger and heal wounds, but not the soul." Christian Springer is a passionate ambassador for humanity and is always proud of his team: "Each individual moves a big wheel. I couldn't do anything without our team. They save people. And don't think anything of it. They just do it."
